The Weber State Wildcats and the BYU Cougars meet in college basketball action from the Marriott Center on Thursday night.

The Weber State Wildcats will look to build on a 75-72 win over Utah State as 17-point underdogs last time out. Dillon Jones leads the Wildcats across the board in scoring, rebounding and assists with 14.1 PPG, 9.3 RPG and 3.6 APG while Steven Verplancken Jr. has 12.6 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Weber State so far this season. The BYU Cougars will try to build on a 90-61 win over Lindenwood last time out. Rudi Williams leads the Cougars in with 14.1 PPG and 3.2 APG while Gideon George has 12.4 PPG with 6.1 RPG as well this season. Fousseyni Traore has 12.8 PPG with a team-high 8.4 RPG to lead BYU in rebounding while Spencer Johnson has 11 PPG and 4.3 RPG this season to cap off BYU’s group of double-digit scorers. Dallin Hall also has a team-high 3.6 APG to lead the Cougars in the assist department as well this season. As a team, BYU is averaging 77.6 points per game on 44.2% shooting from the field, 33.1% from three point range and 67.4% from the foul line so far this season.

Weber State is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games following a win and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record. BYU is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 Thursday games while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 home games against a team with a road winning percentage below .400.

I get the case to be made for BYU laying the big number of points at home, but the problem here is that I don’t think that this year’s BYU team is as good or is as fearsome as we’ve seen in past years. Weber State hasn’t been very good this year either in fairness, but they’re coming off of a huge win and I just don’t think that BYU should be laying this many points. Give me the Wildcats.
