The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks will travel to the CBU Events Center to take on the California Baptist Lancers this Saturday night in College Basketball action.
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 12-8 on the season after being defeated by the Seattle U Redhawks, 70-62, this past Wednesday. Stephen F. Austin struggled on the offensive end against Seattle U and could not fight back after the Redhawks took a 62-50 lead with 5:44 left in regulation. Stephen F. Austin shot just 35.8% from the field & 26.1% from beyond the arc while allowing Seattle U to shoot 44.1% from the field & 34.5% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Lumberjacks was Gavin Kensmil who had a double-double with 19 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, & 1 block.

California Baptist had no answers on the offensive end for the Sam Houston defense and could not fight back after the Bearkats took a 68-62 lead with just under a minute left in regulation. California Baptist shot 38.3% from the field & 22.2% from beyond the arc while allowing Sam Houston to shoot 41.5% from the field & 45.0% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Lancers was Daniel Akin who had a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, & 3 steals.
On the season, California Baptist is averaging 74.6 ppg on 46.0% shooting from the field. The Lancers are averaging 7.2 three-pointers per game on 32.4% shooting from beyond the arc. California Baptist is a solid team that has played well at home this season (11-3 record), however, I just don’t think the Lancers are quite there in terms of playing with the best opponents in the WAC. Stephen F. Austin hasn’t been playing their best basketball as of late, however, this is a team that is solid on both ends of the court and as I think their offense has success in this one, I think the Lumberjacks do enough to cover this small road spread.
