UC Davis Aggies

UC Davis managed a 12-8 start to the year through 20 games. The Aggies went 4-4 in their next eight with wins over CSU Bakersfield, Hawaii, CSU Northridge and UC San Diego. A Thursday game versus CSU Fullerton was ultimately cancelled due to lack of athlete availability for the Aggies.

In Monday’s matchup versus UC San Diego, UC Davis took a 33-31 edge into the second half. The Aggies finished off on a 43-35 run and took the win 76-66. Leading scorer Elijah Pepper put up 22 points with seven rebounds.

Cal Poly Mustangs

Over on the Cal Poly side, they started off on a 7-14 run through 21 games. The Mustangs have since lost to CSU Fullerton, UCSB, Hawaii, UC Irvine, CSU Northridge, CSU Bakersfield, CSU Fullerton and UC Irvine again in the last eight outings.

Back on Monday versus UC Irvine, Cal Poly held a 31-27 advantage in the locker room. The Mustangs fell behind 32-25 in the second however and lost 59-56. Alimamy Koroma led the team on 15 points in 23 minutes.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably still lean toward UC Davis in this one. Probably not going near it, though; with this week’s cancellation and health woes it’s tough to know what the Aggies will look like. In any case, UC Davis managed to eke out a 65-63 win the last time these teams met up back on January 21 at the Pavilion. The Aggies have been a mixed bag since then, but Cal Poly has certainly hit the skids. So long as UC Davis can hover in the 70-point range in this rematch they should be fine on a cover. That’s no guarantee, however. This probably isn’t one to mess with.
