The Western Michigan Broncos will travel to McGuirk Arena to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas this Thursday night in College Basketball action.

The Western Michigan Broncos lost their 7th straight game and dropped to 4-13 on the season after being defeated by the Akron Zips, 74-73, this past Tuesday. Western Michigan looked like they were going to pull off the upset after taking a 73-63 lead with just 2:40 left in regulation, however, the Broncos fell apart on both ends of the court down the stretch and Akron was able to pull off the improbable comeback after closing out the game on an 11-0 run. Western Michigan shot 53.2% from the field & 58.3% from beyond the arc while allowing Akron to shoot 46.0% from the field & 36.7% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Broncos was B. Artis White who had 23 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assits, & 1 steal.

On the season, Western Michigan is averaging 65.4 ppg on 42.6% shooting from the field. The Broncos are averaging 7.9 three-pointers per game on 32.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Western Michigan has been led by Lamar Norman Jr. (19.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.8 apg), Markeese Hastings (8.8 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 1.1 apg), Mack Smith (8.4 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.8 apg), & B. Artis White (7.7 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 1.0 apg).

Defensively, Western Michigan is allowing their opponents to average 77.6 ppg on 45.9% shooting from the field. The Broncos have a rebound margin of -1.6 and a turnover margin of -5.3.

The Central Michigan Chippewas lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 2-12 o the season after being defeated by the Eastern Michigan Eagles, 99-68, on January 11th. Central Michigan had no answers on the defensive end for Eastern Michigan and could not fight back after going into halftime trailing by a 46-31 margin. Central Michigan shot 40.4% from the field & 40.0% from beyond the arc while allowing Eastern Michigan to shoot 59.7% from the field & 35.0% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Chippewas was Jermaine Jackson Jr. who had 20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, & 2 steals.

On the season, Central Michigan is averaging 64.6 ppg on 40.5% shooting from the field. The Chippewas are averaging 8.4 three-pointers per game on 37.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Central Michigan has been led by Jermaine Jackson Jr. (11.4 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.7 apg), Oscar Lopez Jr. (10.0 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.0 spg), Kevin Miller (9.7 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.2 spg), & Harrison Henderson (9.6 ppg, 4.1 rpg).

Defensively, Central Michigan is allowing their opponents to average 83.9 ppg on 48.3% shooting from the field. The Chippewas have a rebound margin of -7.8 and a turnover margin of -3.8.

The Broncos are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games, however, are just 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games vs. Central Michigan. The Chippewas are 4-9 ATS in their last 14 games & just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. MAC-West opponents.

Western Michigan has struggled on both ends of the court this season as they come into this game ranked just 306th in scoring offense, t-330th in scoring defense, & 315th in defensive FG%. Central Michigan has also had issues on both ends of the court and come into this game ranked just 314th in scoring offense, 349th in scoring defense, & 342nd in defensive FG%.

Western Michigan was impressive against Akron and almost pulled off the upset after being double-digit underdogs, however, I think it’s going to be hard for the Broncos to bounce back in their 2nd road game in three days after blowing a double-digit lead late against the Zips. Central Michigan is not a great team, but they have a nice win at Kent State and between the fact that I think their three-point shooting (101st in three-pointers made per game; 42nd in 3P-FG%) will have some success and that they have had success ATS vs. Western Michigan recently, I think Central Michigan does enough to cover with the points. Good Luck!
