Charleston Southern vs South Carolina State 12/21/21 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The South Carolina State Bulldogs and the Charleston Southern Buccaneers meet in college basketball action from McAlister Field House on Tuesday afternoon.

The South Carolina State Bulldogs come into this game looking to add to a 74-57 win over the Citadel last time out. Cameron Jones leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 11.3 PPG along with 4.1 RPG and 2.6 APG while TJ Madlock has 10.1 PPG with 4.8 RPG and a team-high 3.1 APG to lead the Bulldogs in assists and to make up the pair of double-digit scorers for South Carolina State so far this season. Edward Oliver-Hampton also has 8.3 PPG with a team-high 6.3 RPG to lead the Bulldogs on the glass this season. As a team, South Carolina State is averaging 73.5 PPG on 39.7% shooting from the field, 33.8% from three and 67.2% from the foul line while allowing 76.4 PPG on 43% shooting from the field and 31.2% from three this season.

The Charleston Southern Buccaneers will try to bounce back from a 99-75 win over Manhattan in their last game. Tahlik Chavez leads the Buccaneers in scoring with 11 PPG as the lone scorer averaging double-digits for CSU while Kalib Clinton and Deontaye Buskey each have 9+ PPG. Sean Price also has team-highs of 6.4 RPG and 2.2 APG to lead the Buccaneers on the glass and in assists this season. As a team, Charleston Southern is averaging 73.6 points per game on 41.1% shooting from the field, 28% from three and 65% from the foul line while allowing 80.7 points on 45.6% shooting from the field and 34.6% from three this season.

I find myself trying to make a case for Charleston Southern in this game, but simply can’t do it. The Buccaneers are struggling mightily right now and it doesn’t matter where they play, the Buccaneers have been nothing short of fade material for much of the season. South Carolina State isn’t a world-beater by any means, but they’re playing the better ball right now by a fair margin and only having to lay a bucket here seems like the way to go in this one.
