The Western Carolina Catamounts and the Charlotte 49ers meet in college basketball action from the Halton Arena on Wednesday night.
The Western Carolina Catamounts will try to bounce back from an 85-79 loss at the hands of Georgia last time out. Nicholas Robinson leads the Catamounts in scoring and rebounding with 14.7 PPG and 7.9 RPG while Travion McCray has 11.3 PPG and 5.3 RPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Western Carolina so far this season. Joe Petrakis has 8.6 PPG and Vontarius Woolbright has 8.5 PPG with 5.8 RPG and a team-high 4.4 APG to lead Western Carolina in assists this season. As a team, Western Carolina is averaging 76.3 PPG on 41.9% shooting from the field, 35% from three and 63.4% from the foul line while allowing 75.8 PPG on 42.4% shooting from the field and 32.2% from three this season.
The Charlotte 49ers will look to build on a 70-54 win over Maryland Eastern Shore last time out. Jahmir Young leads the 49ers in scoring and assists with 20.1 PPG and 4.1 APG as well as logging 6.2 RPG on the year while Clyde Trapp has 10.5 PPG and a team-high 6.7 RPG to lead the 49ers on the glass. Austin Butler has 11.5 PPG with 6.5 RPG to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Charlotte up to this point in the season. Aly Khalifa has 9.4 PPG with 4.3 RPG and 3.4 APG as well on the year for Charlotte. As a team, Charlotte is averaging 70.8 PPG on 47% shooting from the field, 34.7% from three and 79% from the foul line while allowing 73.1 PPG on 46.4% shooting from the field and 34% from three this season.
Western Carolina is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games following a loss. Charlotte is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 4-12 ATS in their last 16 games following a win while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 home games.
I get why the 49ers are favored at home here, but I’m just not in a spot where I really want to be laying double-digits with Charlotte against a Western Carolina team that can score and just put a legitimate scare into Georgia. I look for the Catamounts to bang on the boards and keep this one within the number in a hard-fought battle.
