IUPUI Jaguars

It’s been a tough season for IUPUI so far. The Jaguars got their first win over Franklin on November 19, then didn’t get another one until December 12 versus Spalding. Win number three came December 20 versus Texas A&M-commerce, and there’s been nothing since.

On Wednesday versus Fort Wayne, IUPUI went into halftime with a 40-40 tie. The Jaguars were outscored 41-35 from there and lost 81-75, however. Tops in scoring was Jlynn Counter with 27 points and three rebounds.

Cleveland State Vikings

Over on the Cleveland State side, they lost to Notre Dame OH, Cincinnati, Ohio, St. Bonaventure, Kent State, LMU, Youngstown State and Milwaukee in their first 16 games. The Vikings hit a 4-1 run in the next five with a lone loss to Northern Kentucky.

On Friday versus Fort Wayne, Cleveland State jumped out to a 45-34 lead by the second half. The Vikings were outscored 40-34 the rest of the way but still hung on for the 79-74 win. Tristan Enaruna topped the team with 19 points and eight rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stay with Cleveland State here. The last time these teams met up back on January 14 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum, the Vikings secured a blowout victory 89-54. Cleveland State had a 53-31 advantage in the second half in that one and didn’t struggle too much. The good news for IUPUI is that they’ve scored 75 or more points in three straight outings since then. The bad news is that they’ve also given up 81 or more points in all three games. Cleveland State should have plenty of scoring opportunities in this one.
