The Georgia Southern Eagles and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers meet Saturday in college basketball action from HTC Center. Georgia Southern is coming off a Thursday game versus South Alabama. The Eagles ended up winning by 14 points. As for Coastal Carolina, they played Louisiana in their Thursday game. In that one the Chanticleers eked out a one-point victory. Georgia Southern went 3-3 over their first six games this year, losing to San Jose State, Santa Clara and Rice. The Eagles hit a 4-3 run in the next seven outings, beating Oglethorpe, Piedmont, Wofford and Campbell along the way.
On Thursday versus South Alabama, the Eagles went into halftime up 35-25. Georgia Southern posted a 29-25 second-half advantage on the way to a 64-50 win. Jalen Finch topped the team on 14 points with five boards.
Over on the Coastal Carolina side, they were 3-3 over their first six games with losses to USC Upstate, Missouri and UNC Wilmington. The Chanticleers won three of the next five versus Winthrop, Regent VA and South Dakota.
Matched up against Louisiana on Thursday, the Chanticleers held a 38-35 edge at the break. Coastal Carolina gave up 41 second-half points but hung on for the 77-76 win. Jomaru Brown led the team on 28 points with two rebounds.
PICK: I’ll probably take a stab on Coastal Carolina here. The Chanticleers are 3-1 in their last four games, notching 69 or more points in each of those outings. Coastal Carolina has also given up a ton of points lately—71 or more in four of their last five. Georgia Southern has scored 64 or fewer points in three straight games but should have some good opportunities to score in this one. I still like Coastal to eke out a cover, though.
