Georgia State Panthers
Georgia State started out the year on a .500 clip, going 9-9 over their first 18 games. Since then the Panthers are just 1-7 however, losing to Old Dominion, Georgia Southern, App State, Marshall, Southern Miss, Old Dominion again and Marshall again.
In the Marshall rematch on Saturday, the Panthers were down 43-37 by halftime. Georgia State was outscored 45-40 from there and lost 88-77. Collin Moore led the team on 28 points with four rebounds in the defeat.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers
Over on the Coastal Carolina side, they were an even 9-9 after 18 games this year as well. The Chanticleers have similarly lost to Chicago State, James Madison, Old Dominion, LA-Monroe, Arkansas State, Marshall and James Madison again since then.
Back on Saturday versus James Madison, the Chanticleers were up 41-31 by halftime. Coastal Carolina was drilled 42-25 in the second half however and lost 73-66. Josh Uduje scored 22 and Jimmy Nichols doubled on 20 points and 13 rebounds in that one.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably stick with Coastal Carolina here. I could probably go either way, though; these teams have been on very similar courses this year and I expect this one to be close. In any case, Coastal Carolina is flailing on this seven-game losing streak but there’s not all bad news. The Chanticleers have scored 66 or more points in 10 of their last 12 games and should be able to put up a decent number here. The last time these teams met up back on January 14, Georgia State posted a dominant 100-66 win at home. Coastal Carolina will have to play great basketball in order to get some revenge but I think they can do it with the home advantage.
