Howard Bison

Howard managed a rough start to the season at 5-11 and wren’t able to win consecutive games during that time. The Bison hit their stride with wins over South Carolina State, MD-Eastern Shore and Morehouse earlier this month, but then fell to Norfolk State and Morgan State in the next pair.

In the Saturday matchup with Morgan State, the Bison trailed by two points heading into the second half. Howard didn’t end up getting closer on a 41-37 run from there and lost 85-79. Tops in scoring was Seth Towns, who put up 21 points with three rebounds in the defeat.

Coppin State Eagles

Over on the Eagles’ side, they haven’t been able to win consecutive games yet this year at all. Coppin State has victories over only UMBC and MD-Eastern Shore so far. Since their last win January 8, the Eagles have fallen to Morgan State and Norfolk State in their last two outings.

Matched up against Norfolk State over the weekend, the Eagles trailed by six points in the locker room. Coppin State was outscored 36-32 the rest of the way and lost 68-58. Ryan Archey and Khali Horton came off the bench to contribute 15 points apiece and six combined rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE HOWARD VS COPPIN STATE PREDICTION

I’ll stay with Howard. There’s not a lot to like about this matchup though, as both teams are struggling mightily this year. The Bison at least shot pretty well (51 percent) in their loss to Morgan State, however they gave up 54.4 percent shooting on the other side along with 17 turnovers. The good news is that Howard has scored 72 or more points in four of their last five games.

As for Coppin State, they’ve been below 60 points in nine of their last 10 games so they’re really going to have to step it up on offense in order to keep pace here. I don’t think the Eagles will quite get there in the end.
