The Oakland Golden Grizzlies and the Delaware Blue Hens meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Germain Arena. Oakland enters this game at 4-2 overall. The Grizzlies are coming off a win over Rice on Tuesday. As for Delaware, they beat Fordham by 10 points in their Tuesday game. Oakland started off the season against West Virginia and took a loss 60-53. After wins over Oklahoma State and Toledo, the Grizzlies fell to Alabama 86-59. Game five was a tight 63-61 win over Vermont.
On Tuesday against Rice, the Grizzlies were up 34-29 at halftime and hung on for the 76-73 win despite a second-half rush by the Owls. Oakland’s top scorer was Trey Townsend with 25 points, and Jalen Moore added 13 points with 10 assists.
Over on the Delaware side, they took a 93-71 loss to Davidson in their opener this year. The Hens began a win streak after that, taking out Siena, La Salle and Appalachian State over their next trio of outings.
In Tuesday’s game against Fordham, Delaware kept it going with another win. The Hens posted a 39-29 edge at halftime and held on for an 81-71 win. Leading scorer Dylan Painter finished with 17 points, six rebounds and two assists.
PICK: I’m going to try Oakland in this one. The Grizzlies have had a few close calls this year, but overall they’re playing well. Oakland shot 51.6 percent from the field against Rice. Despite getting out-rebounded 34-29 the Grizzlies controlled the ball well with just eight turnovers.
As for Delaware, they had a dominant outing on Tuesday, shooting 60 percent from the floor with 30 rebounds. The Hens were a little sloppy with 17 turnovers, though. This should be a really fun matchup overall, and should be competitive the whole way.
