Duke vs Vermont Prediction 3-22-24 College Basketball Picks

In this article we will formulate a Vermont vs Duke betting prediction for this NCAA Tournament college basketball game on Friday, March 22nd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. To formulate this prediction, we will examine:

Vermont Preview

The Vermont Catamounts are 28-6 (15-1) this season after they defeated UMass-Lowell by a score of 66-61 in the American East Title game. Vermont has won 10 games in a row and 19 of their last 20. The Catamounts went 15-1 in conference play and won the conference by four games. Vermont did pick up wins over Toledo and Yale in the non-conference, while losing to Bradley, Colgate, and Virginia Tech. The Catamounts are scoring 72.3 points per game with 34.7 rebounds per game and 13.7 assists per game, while allowing 63 points against per game this year. TJ Long is averaging 12.2 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game, and 1.4 assists per game. Vermont is shooting 45.6% from the field, 72% on free throws, and 34.4% on three pointers this season.

Duke Preview

The Duke Blue Devils are 24-8 (15-5) this year after they lost to NC State by a score of 74-69 in the ACC Tournament. Duke lost to North Carolina by a score of 84-79 in their last regular season game, so they come into this tournament with very little momentum. The Blue Devils have won eight of their last 11 games and they finished second in the ACC standings. Duke has non-conference quality wins against MSU and Baylor. The Blue Devils are scoring 79.8 points per game with 36.5 rebounds per game and 15.4 assists per game, while giving up 67.4 points against per game this season. Kyle Filipowski is averaging 17.1 points per game, 8.2 rebounds per game, and 2.8 assists per game. Duke is shooting 48.2% from the field, 72.2% on free throws, and 37.7% on three pointers this year.

Vermont vs Duke Betting Prediction

Duke comes into this matchup on a two game losing streak, but they had a very good regular season and finished second in the ACC. Vermont won their conference tournament, but they were not as dominant as they normally are over the last few weeks. The Catamounts last four wins came by margins of 5, 7, 3, and 4 points, so they will have to play much better to have a chance here. Vermont is a very good defensive team, but I don’t think Duke is going to have too many problems scoring. Despite allowing 74 and 84 points in their last two games, Duke has pretty solid defensive numbers this season. Give me the Blue Devils in this game.
