Eastern Illinois vs Morehead State 2/24/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Morehead State Eagles and the Eastern Illinois Panthers meet Thursday in college basketball action from Lantz Arena. The Eagles are sitting at 20-9 so far this year. Morehead State lost to Southeast Missouri State in their last game. As for Eastern Illinois, they’re 5-24 overall and coming off a loss to SIU Edwardsville. Morehead State hit a spotty 6-5 run to start off the year, but then only lost one game from December 15 to February 10. The last four games have been a 1-3 run for the Eagles with losses to Belmont, Murray State and Southeast Missouri State.

On Saturday versus Southeast Missouri State, the Eagles were down 39-41 by halftime. Morehead State was outscored 45-51 from there in a 92-84 defeat. Jaylon Hall topped the team with his 21 points and one rebound.

Over on the Eastern Illinois side, they’ve only got one instance of consecutive wins so far this year and have been struggling mightily with consistency. The Panthers have lost their last four to Austin Peay, Belmont, Tennessee State and SIU Edwardsville.

In Monday’s matchup versus SIU Edwardsville, the Panthers scored just 16 points in the first half. Eastern Illinois got better from there on 36 points but still lost 66-52. Dan Luers led the way with his 21 points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Panthers are 4-12 ATS in their last 16 Thursday games and 16-35 ATS in their last 51 overall. EIU is 2-6 ATS in their last eight at home.

Meanwhile, the Eagles are 6-13 ATS in their last 19 road games and 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 overall. Morehead State is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Thursday games.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Morehead State but probably staying away. The Eagles have been on a rough run lately against some tricky teams, but generally they’re staying competitive in the losses. Back on December 29 when these teams last met up, Morehead State posted a 63-50 victory at home. I’d like to see more of an offensive push from the Eagles here, but overall I think they’ll be okay on a potential cover.
