The Troy Trojans and the Georgia Southern Eagles meet Saturday in college basketball action from Hanner Fieldhouse. Troy is coming off a Thursday matchup against Georgia State. The Trojans would go on to win by four points. As for Georgia Southern, they played South Alabama in their Thursday outing. In that one the Eagles eked out a one-point win. Troy hit a 13-5 run to start the year, dropping games to Butler, North Dakota, Florida, SE Louisiana and UT Arlington along the way. After two more losses to Louisiana and South Alabama, the Trojans beat South Alabama in the Saturday rematch.
In Thursday’s game versus Georgia State, Troy posted 34 points in the first half and 33 more in the second as they powered out a 67-63 victory. Efe Odigie led the team with 17 points and 11 rebounds. TK Smith posted 12 points and four boards.
Over on the Georgia Southern side, they’ve had trouble winning consecutive games since opening the year at 4-0. The Eagles took a recent three-game losing streak to South Alabama, Coastal Carolina and App State before wins over UL Monroe and Louisiana.
Matched up against South Alabama on Thursday, the Eagles held a nice 38-23 edge at half-time. Georgia Southern was outscored 34-20 from there but hung on for the 58-57 win. Cam Bryant and Gedi Juozapaitis each scored 10 points to lead the team.
The Eagles are 4-0 ATS in the last four at home versus a team with a winning road record and the over is 4-1 in their last five at home. The over is 4-1 in Georgia Southern’s last five versus a team with a winning straight-up record.
Meanwhile, the Trojans are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Saturday games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up win. Troy is 5-2 ATS in their last seven overall.
PICK: I’m going to try Troy in this one. The Trojans have had some ups and downs over the last four games, but they’ve done well in the most recent pair. Troy has hit 67 or more points in five of their last seven games, and they’re going to need a good offensive showing here. Georgia Southern has held teams to 65 or fewer points in each of the last three outings, but I think the Trojans can power out the cover/win if they can find an early rhythm. Should be a fun one to watch.
