The Loyola MD Greyhounds and the Hampton Pirates meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Hampton Convocation Center. Loyola MD comes into this one at 4-5 overall. The Greyhounds lost to Coppin State in their last game. As for Hampton, they’re 2-6 after a loss to Howard in their most recent outing. Loyola MD went 2-2 over their first four outings this year. The wins were versus Brown and Washington MD. Another 2-2 run came after that, as the Greyhounds lost to Clemson and Southern U before victories versus LA-Monroe and Binghamton.

In Saturday’s game versus Coppin State, the Greyhounds were up 38-33 at the break. Loyola couldn’t keep it going in the second and ended up falling 74-71. Leading scorer Kenny Jones finished with 18 points and three rebounds.

Over on the Hampton side, they’ve got just two wins over Regent VA and Howard in the books. The losses otherwise have come to James Madison, East Carolina, UCSB, North Alabama, Wake Forest and Georgia.

Back on Saturday versus Howard, Hampton played a pretty solid game. The Pirates were up 47-34 by halftime and hung on for the 74-65 win. Leading scorer Jordan Nesbitt put up 23 points, while Russell Dean added 20 points.

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Loyola. The Greyhounds are coming off a close loss to a comparable Coppin State team but they should be able to handle things here. Loyola has scored 71 or more points in four of their nine outings so far. Another big total seems in store against Hampton, who has given up 73 or more points in six of eight games. If Loyola can get off to a good start in the first half they should be fine cover/win-wise.
