The High Point Panthers and the Iona Gaels meet in college basketball action from the Hertz Arena on Monday afternoon.
High Point Loses To Queens
The High Point Panthers come into this one looking to rebound from a 74-72 loss to Queens last time out. Duke Miles leads the Panthers in scoring and assists with 18.3 PPG and 3.7 APG while Kimani Hamilton has 16.7 PPG with 7.7 RPG as well this season. Kezza Giffa has 13.3 PPG with 3.7 APG of his own while Abdoulaye Thiam has 10.7 PPG with 5 RPG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for High Point up to this point in the season. Cade Potter has a team-high 9.3 RPG to lead the Panthers on the glass as well this season. As a team, High Point is averaging 91.7 PPG on 46.9% shooting from the field, 38.1% from three and 71.8% from the foul line this season.
Iona Takes Out Sacred Heart
The Iona Gaels managed to snag their first win of the season after picking up an 88-81 win over Sacred Heart in their last matchup. Idan Tretout leads the Gaels in scoring with 25.5 PPG while Greg Gordon has 13 PPG with a team-high 8.5 RPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Iona through two games this season. Jeremiah Quigley and Wheza Pano each have 9 PPG with Quigley logging 3 APG while Joel Brown has 7 PPG with 4.5 RPG and a team-high 3.5 APG to lead the Gaels in the assist department. As a team, Iona is averaging 78.5 PPG on 44.8% shooting from the field, 39.6% from three and 56.3% from the foul line this season.
I’m on the over here. High Point’s been shooting the ball fairly well so far and hit their free throws, while also shooting well from 2-point range which is Iona’s weakness defensively. On the other side, Iona relies on the 3-pointer for a ton of their offense and High Point has one of the worst 3-point defenses in the country. All in all, I’m looking for this to be a bit of a track meet so give me the over here.
