George Washington opened up their year versus Virginia State last Monday. The Colonials notched 43 points in the first half and 42 more from there in an 85-58 win. James Bishop was the leading scorer on 21 points with nine assists.

In game two versus Howard, George Washington was able to keep it going. The Colonials scored 49 points in the second half to pull off the 85-75 victory. Ricky Lindo was the lead scorer on 19 points and nine boards in that one.

Over on the Hofstra side, their year started versus a tricky Princeton team. The Pride faced a 42-38 halftime deficit, however they fought back for an 83-77 victory. Aaron Estrada was the leading scorer, putting up 27 points with five assists.

In their second matchup of the year, the Pride held a 43-40 lead on Iona by the break. Hofstra had a solid second half in an 83-78 win. Tyler Thomas posted 26 points, and Darlinstone Dubar added 22 points with six rebounds in 35 minutes.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Hofstra. Probably not going near it, though; this should be a pretty close matchup. In any case, Hofstra shot well in the Iona game with 49.1 percent from the field and 48.3 percent from 3-point range. The Pride did get out-muscled on the boards 39-28 (14-5 offensive), but also came up with 19 team assists.

As for George Washington, I like them to play pretty well here also. The Colonials have gotten off to a strong start; this could very well be their toughest matchup yet, though. Should be a good one.
