Northern Arizona Lumberjacks

Northern Arizona didn’t get off to a great start this year, hitting a 5-15 run over their first 20 games. The Lumberjacks went 2-5 over the next seven with losses to Eastern Washington, Montana State, Montana, Idaho State and Portland State.

In the Eastern Washington matchup on Thursday, the Lumberjacks were outscored 34-22 in the first half and 38-33 in the second for a 72-55 defeat. Carson Towt and Jalen Cone each scored 12 points to top the team in the loss.

Idaho Vandals

Over on the Vandals’ side, they held a rough 6-12 record in their first 18 games of the year. Idaho didn’t play well over the next eight games with losses to Northern Colorado, Weber State, Idaho State, Portland State and Eastern Washington for a 3-5 run.

Matched up against Northern Colorado on Thursday, the Vandals were down 36-32 at the break. Idaho hit a 52-46 run from there and won the game 84-82. Leading scorer Divant’e Moffitt put up 35 points with six rebounds and six assists.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with Idaho. Granted, both teams are struggling and there’s not a ton of intrigue here. The Vandals are fresh off a gritty home win over a struggling Northern Colorado team and they’ve now won two of their last three outings. These teams last met up back on January 19 at Findlay Toyota Center in an 88-83 Vandals win. Idaho posted a 47-36 edge in the first half there and held on the rest of the way. I like the Vandals to repeat the feat in the home rematch with a cover, but I’m probably staying away from this one.
