The Chicago State Cougars and the Iowa State Cyclones meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Hilton Coliseum. Chicago State is currently 4-7 this year. The Cougars beat IUPUI in their last game. As for Iowa State, they’re rolling along at 11-0 so far and fresh off a win over Southeastern LA. Chicago State managed wins in their first pair of games this year, then hit a losing streak versus SIUE, Loyola IL, UC Santa Barbara, Pacific, Bowling Green and Loyola MD. Since then it’s been a 2-2 run with wins over Tennessee State and IUPUI.

Matched up against IUPUI last Thursday, the Cougars posted a 27-17 edge in the first half and hung on for the 61-55 victory. Dominique Alexander was the lead scorer on 17 points and seven rebounds, while Brandon Betson added 15 points and six boards.

Over on the Iowa State side, they’ve had a couple of relative close calls this year but have still been racking up the wins. The Cyclones have beaten AR-Pine Bluff, Creighton, Iowa, Jackson State and Southeastern Louisiana in their last five games.

In Sunday’s matchup versus SE Louisiana, the Cyclones posted a tepid 25 points in the first half but then caught fire for 52 more from there in a 77-54 win. Caleb Grill put up 20 points, and Izaiah Brockington added 17 points with 11 rebounds.

The Cyclones are 1-4 ATS in their last five Tuesday games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall. Iowa State is 3-9 ATS in the last 12 games as a favorite.

Meanwhile, the Cougars are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games and 6-1 ATS in the last seven games overall. Chicago State is 1-5 ATS in their last six Tuesday games.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Iowa State–despite the thick line. The Cyclones started slow against SE Louisiana in their last game, but ultimately shot 56.9 percent from the field with 30 rebounds and 19 team assists. Iowa State has had a couple of tepid scoring outings in their last four games, but they’re getting the job done.

As for Chicago State, they probably don’t have the offense to hang around here for long. I’d say this one is certainly a margin-of-blowout-victory question, and I like Iowa State to bag a cover.
