The Jackson State Tigers and the Iowa State Cyclones meet Sunday in college basketball action from Hilton Coliseum. Jackson State is 2-6 so far this year and coming off a win over Illinois State. Jackson State hit an 0-5 skid versus Illinois, LA Tech, Cal Baptist, Marshall and Indiana to start the year. The Tigers were better at 2-1 over their next three, losing to Marquette between wins over Louisiana and Illinois State.
In the win over Illinois State last weekend, the Tigers posted a 32-30 edge by halftime and were able to power out a 61-55 result. Leading scorer Ken Evans doubled up with 13 poitns, 12 rebounds and four assists.
Over on the Cyclones’ side, they’ve really only had a couple of close games so far. Iowa State has taken out Kennesaw State, Oregon State, Alabama State, Grambling State, Xavier, Memphis, AR-Pine Bluff, Creighton and Iowa in their first nine outings.
On Thursday in the Iowa game, the Cyclones posted 38 points in the first half and 35 more from there in a 73-53 blowout win. Iowa State’s Izaiah Brockington was tops in scoring with 29 points, 10 rebounds and two assists.
The Cyclones are 18-5 ATS in their last 23 Sunday games and 5-1 ATS in their last six overall. Iowa State is 2-8 ATS in the last 10 as a favorite.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 road games and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 as a road underdog. The over is 5-1 in Jackson State’s last six after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m going with Iowa State. The Cyclones have been very impressive so far this season, and they’ve taken care of business at every turn. Iowa State shot a solid 43.5 percent from the field in the Iowa game, posting 50 rebounds and 18 assists along the way.
The line on this one is going to be pretty hefty just about everywhere, but if the team continues to play well I don’t think the Cyclones will have too many issues in this one.
