The Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Iowa State Cyclones meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Hilton Coliseum. Texas Tech is 10-2 this year and fresh off a win over Alabama State. As for Iowa State, they’re sitting at 12-1 on the season. The Cyclones lost to Baylor in their last outing. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Texas Tech went on a 6-0 run to start the season before a loss to Providence on December 1. The Red Raiders are 4-1 since then with a loss to Gonzaga among wins over Tennessee, Arkansas State, Eastern Washington and Alabama State.
In the game versus the Hornets on December 28, the Red Raiders scored 42 points in the first half and 33 more from there in a 75-53 win. Davion Warren led the team on 15 points, while both Kevin McCullar and Adonis Arms added 11 points apiece.
Over on the Iowa State side, they opened with wins over Kennesaw State, Oregon State, Alabama State, Grambling State, Xavier, Memphis, AR-Pine Bluff, Creighton, Iowa, Jackson State, Southeast LA and Chicago State. The Cyclones took a tough loss to Baylor in their last game.
Matched up against Baylor on January 1, Iowa State went into halftime with a 41-33 deficit. The Cyclones ultimately couldn’t come back in a 77-72 loss. Tristan Enaruna led the team with 23 points, eight rebounds and one assist in 28 minutes of work.
The Cyclones are 5-1 ATS in their last six overall and 5-2 ATS in the last seven after an ATS win. Iowa State is 4-1 ATS in their last five at home.
Meanwhile, the Raiders are 1-8 ATS in their last nine road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five as an underdog. Texas Tech is 5-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss.
PICK: I’m going with Iowa State here. The Cyclones were able to hang with Baylor very well in their last game, but fell victim to a couple of bad stats. Iowa State shot a nice 47.2 percent from the field, but hit just 1-of-14 on 3-point attempts (7.1 percent) and coughed up 17 turnovers.
As for Texas Tech, they’ve scored pretty well lately with 75 or more in three of their last four games. The Raiders should provide a stout test for Iowa State, and this should be one of the better Wednesday matchups on the college basketball schedule. I like the Cyclones to pull off a cover/win in a highly entertaining game.
