The Southern Miss Golden Eagles and the Lamar Cardinals meet Monday in college basketball action from Montagne Center. Southern Miss is .500 through 10 games this year and coming off a loss to McNeese. As for Lamar, they’re 5-5 as well so far after beating LA-Monroe back on Thursday. Let’s get into our Southern Miss vs. Lamar prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Southern Miss Golden Eagles
The Eagles didn’t start out very well this year, going just 2-4 through six games. The losses in that time were to Akron, Utah Valley, Cal State Fullerton and South Dakota State. Southern Miss would win the next three games however, taking out Milwaukee, UAB and Northwestern State.
Southern Miss wasn’t able to keep their win streak going in their latest matchup versus McNeese. The Eagles trailed 38-26 by halftime and didn’t end up getting any closer with just 22 second-half points in a 67-48 outcome. Lead scorers Victor Hart and Donvoan Ivory each had 12 points in the defeat.

Lamar Cardinals
Over on the Lamar side, they haven’t been able to win consecutive games yet this year. The Cardinals started out on a 4-5 run with wins over Jarvis Christian, UTSA, Bethune-Cookman and Delaware State. The losses otherwise were versus SMU, Pacific, Longwood, UTSA and Sam Houston.
Lamar managed to get back into the win column with a matchup versus LA-Monroe on Thursday. In that game the Cardinals jumped out to a 10-point edge by the break and cruised with 50 more points from there in a 97-73 win. BB Knight was the top scorer off the bench with 19 points and three boards.
ANDREW’S FREE SOUTHERN MISS VS LAMAR PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Southern Miss. This should be an interesting matchup, though. The Eagles really need a bounce-back effort after a flat game versus a good McNeese team. Southern Miss shot just 27.9 percent from the field and 28 percent from 3-point range in that one, but did managed 44 rebounds and just eight turnovers. In their previous three games (all wins), Southern Miss had posted 83 or more points during each outing. A big total here will be crucial.
As for Lamar, they’ve hit 70 or more points in eight straight games so they should be scoring early and often here as well. The Cardinals have been pretty permissive on the scoreboard however, so I think there’s room for an Eagles cover/win in this one.
