The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks and the Liberty Flames meet Friday in college basketball action from Liberty Arena. Maryland Eastern Shore is 3-4 overall this season and coming off a win over Lehigh. As for Liberty, they’re sitting at 4-3 on the year. The Flames beat Delaware State back on Saturday. Maryland Eastern Shore went just 1-3 over their first four games this year. The losses in that stretch were to Old Dominion, Charlotte and George Washington. The Hawks have hit a 2-1 run since then with wins over Marist and Lehigh.

In the Lehigh game on Wednesday, Maryland Eastern Shore had things all tied up at 27-27 going into the second half. The Hawks scored another 37 from there and won 64-60. Da’Shawn Phillip put up 17 points with four rebounds in the victory.

Over on the Liberty side, they went a sketchy 2-3 over their first five games, beating Regent VA and NC Central with losses to Alabama, Southern Miss and Northwestern. Liberty got back to .500 with a win over Bradley in game six.

On Saturday versus Delaware State, Liberty posted another victory. The Flames were up 49-26 going into the second half and cruised to an 80-53 win. Darius McGhee led the way on 23 points, and Brody Peebles added 12 points.

PICK: I’m probably staying with Liberty but probably not touching it. This should be a pretty fun matchup, though. The Flames got a good offensive performance in their last game versus Delaware State, bagging 80 points. Liberty had just 107 combined points in the two games before that, but the team has generally been solid scoring-wise against comparable teams so far. As for MD Eastern Shore, they’ve had some offensive duds themselves a few times this year, and have gotten past 70 points just once in seven games. If Liberty can get off to a good first-half start I think they’ll be okay on a cover.
