The Cal Poly Mustangs and the Long Beach State Beach meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Walter Pyramid. Cal Poly is 7-9 overall this year. The Mustangs lost to UC Santa Barbara in their last outing. As for Long Beach State, they’re 7-9 as well following a loss to UC Irvine. Cal Poly stood at 5-5 after 10 games this year, losing to San Francisco, Stanford, Mount St. Mary’s, Washington and Weber State. Cal Poly is 2-4 since then with losses to San Jose State, Hawaii, CSU Bakersfield and UC Santa Barbara.

In the UC Santa Barbara game, the Mustangs took a 19-16 lead into the second half. Cal Poly was outscored 46-38 from there and lost 62-57. Miles Norris posted 16 points and Away Mitchell added 15 points.

Over on the Long Beach State side, they were 4-6 after 10 games, beating only Cal Baptist, St. Katherine, Oakland and Vermont. The Beach are 3-3 since then with wins over Life Pacific, Idaho and Cal State Northridge.

Back on Saturday versus UC Irvine, Long Beach State was outscored 51-34 in the first half. The Beach kept the pace from there on a 36-36 run and lost 87-70. Lassina Traore topped the team on 22 points with 13 rebounds.

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Long Beach State. This should be an interesting matchup regardless, though. The Beach have been scoring at a nice clip lately. They’ve hit 70 or more points in 10 straight outings. Long Beach State does give up a lot of points on the other side, however: 73 or more in five straight outings. Cal Poly should be able to put up a nice points total in this one, but I’m leaning Long Beach State cover-wise for now.
