Troy Trojans

Troy went 10-6 over their first 16 games, losing to St. Thomas MN, Arkansas, SIUE, San Diego State, Mercer and Southern Miss. The Trojans have since gone 3-2 with wins over Arkansas State, Georgia State and LA-Monroe.

Matched up against the Warhawks on Saturday, the Trojans took a 31-27 lead into the second half. Troy stepped on the gas with a 46-26 run from there and won it 77-53. Aamer Muhammad topped the scorers with 20 points and four assists.

Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns

Over on the Louisiana side, they lost only four of their first 16 games versus Drake, Texas, Coastal Carolina and Old Dominion. The Cajuns have kept it going with wins over LA-Monroe, South Alabama, Arkansas State and Texas State since then.

In the Texas State game on Saturday, Louisiana was up 27-22 at the break. The Cajuns posted a 33-29 advantage in the second half and took the win 60-51. Greg Williams was the leading team scorer on 22 points and four boards.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably lean toward Louisiana in this one. The Cajuns are riding a six-game winning streak right now, and they’ve hit 75 or more points in five of those outings. As for Troy, they’re 5-2 over their last seven games with a combined 164 points in their last pair. The Trojans have been pretty inconsistent on the scoreboard lately, but they’ll hang around if this turns into a defense-heavy matchup. I like Troy to stay with Louisiana for most of the game before the Cajuns ultimately cover. Should be a good one.
