Marshall vs Appalachian State 12/29/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Appalachian State Mountaineers and the Marshall Thundering Herd meet Thursday in college basketball action from Cam Henderson Center. Appalachian State sits at 7-6 so far. The Mountaineers lost to UCSB in their last outing. As for Marshall, they’re 11-2 on the season following a win over Glenville State. Appalachian State managed to go 4-2 in their first six games this year, beating Warren Wilson, NC Central, Louisville and SE Louisiana. The Mountaineers are 3-4 since then with losses to Furman, Charlotte, Wake Forest and UCSB.

Matched up against UC Santa Barbara last Wednesday, the Mountaineers were up 29-27 by halftime. Appalachian State was outscored 34-21 from there and lost it 61-50. Tyree Boykin was the lone double-digit scorer on 14 points.

Over on the Marshall side, their first six games was a 5-1 run with a lone loss to Queens NC in the opener 83-82. The Herd are 6-1 since then with wins over Akron, Ohio, Duquesne, Robert Morris, Toledo and Glenville State.

Last Monday versus Glenville State, the Herd posted a 51-38 advantage by the break. Marshall cruised from there on a 48-35 run and won it 99-73. Andrew Taylor scored 22 points and Micah Handlogten doubled with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

PICK: I’ll probably stay with Marshall. The Herd have been looking great this year outside of the opener loss to Queens NC and the 75-67 defeat at the hands of a mediocre UNC Greensboro team. Marshall has scored well with 68 or more points in each one of their wins. The Herd should put up a nice points total here as well. As for App State, they’ve been at 66 or fewer points in four of their last six games. I don’t think the Mountaineers will be able to keep up in this one either.
