Maryland vs Coppin State Prediction Basketball Picks 12-28-23

The Coppin State Eagles and the Maryland Terrapins meet Thursday in college basketball action from Xfinity Center College Park. Coppin State sits at just 1-12 overall in the MEAC standings. The Eagles have lost five straight, most recently to James Madison. As for Maryland, they’re currently 8-4 and coming off a win over UCLA last Friday. Coppin State Eagles

The Eagles haven’t had much luck in the win column this year. Coppin State lost their first seven games in a row before an 89-70 victory over UMBC. Since then it’s been a string of losses to Navy, Wagner, George Washington, Georgetown and James Madison in succession over the last five.

In the James Madison matchup, Coppin State was pretty outmatched. The Eagles went into the locker room with a 49-26 deficit, then scored just 22 more points in an 87-48 blowout defeat. The only double-digit scorer on the team was Justin Winston with 13 points, eight rebounds and two steals.

Maryland Terrapins

Over on the Maryland side, they managed a sketchy 1-3 run over their first four games with losses to Davidson, UAB and Villanova. The Terrapins have gone 7-1 since then, taking out UMBC, South Alabama, Rider, Penn State, Alcorn State, Nicholls and UCLA (with a loss to Indiana) during that time.

Back on Friday versus UCLA, the Terrapins jumped out to a 43-28 lead by the break. Maryland was outscored 32-26 in the second half but held on for the win 69-60. Jahmir Young was the team’s top scorer with 37 points and seven boards, while Donta Scott added 17 points with six rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE COPPIN STATE VS MARYLAND PREDICTION

I’ll probably just stay with Maryland. Also probably staying away, though; the line’s too thick to mess with. The Terrapins should dominate this matchup, as they’re the far superior team and riding a four-game win streak. Maryland’s last performance was a bit concerning as the bench generated exactly zero points, but we should get much more production from that group here. The Terrapins have posted a nice 69 or more points in each of the last four games and shouldn’t have any issues scoring on Thursday. The only question will be the margin of victory.
