Maryland vs Quinnipiac College Basketball Picks, Odds, Predictions 11/9/2021

The Quinnipiac Bobcats and the Maryland Terrapins meet in college basketball action from the XFINITY CENTER on Tuesday night.

The Quinnipiac Bobcats come into this season looking to shake off a 9-13 record including a 7-10 mark in MAAC conference play, finishing in a tie for 5th but earning the 8-seed in the MAAC conference tournament. The Bobcats’ stay was short, as they were eliminated in the first round by Iona. Jacob Rigoni is back after leading the Bobcats with 11.8 PPG and 6.3 RPG last season while Luis Kortright is the only other double-digit scorer returning after putting up 10.3 PPG and 3.9 RPG. Elias King had 8 PPG and 5.8 RPG and Savion Lewis ran the point, putting up 8.4 PPG and a team-high 3.4 APG to go along with 4.2 RPG. Tymu Chenery also chipped in 9.7 PPG in his freshman campaign. The future has potential for Quinnipiac, but things may end up getting worse before they get better.

The Maryland Terrapins come into this season looking to improve ont heir 17-14 mark in 2020-21, including a 9-11 mark in Big Ten conference play. The Terps took down Michigan State in the second round before eventually falling to Michigan in the quarterfinals, but the Terrapins were good enough to be invited to the NCAA tournament as a 10-seed. Maryland beat UConn in the opening round before being eliminated by Alabama in the second round. There’s some turnover in the Maryland lineup, with Aaron Wiggins going pro and Darryl Morsell transferring to Marquette for some reason. With that said, the Terps have some solid returning pieces like Eric Ayala who had 15.1 PPG and 4.3 RPG last season, and Donta Scott who chipped in 11 PPG and 5.9 RPG. The Terrapins also hit the transfer portal hard, bringing in star Rhode Island guard Fatts Russell after logging 14.7 PPG, 4.5 RPG and 4.5 APG for the Rams last year as well as Qudus Wahab as the big man had 12.7 PPG and 8.2 RPG for Georgetown last year. Expectations are high within Maryland’s ranks, but the Terps should be able to live up to some of, if not all of them with the talent in the roster this season.

Quinnipiac is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games as a road underdog while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Maryland is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 Tuesday games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games as a favorite.

I’d be lying if I was sold completely on Maryland, as Fatts Russell running point does give the Terrapins some offensive power, but it also takes away size as Russell stands 5’11”. With that said, I like what Maryland’s bringing a lot more than I do Quinnipiac as there’s a lot of questions that need to be answered and the Bobcats may not like the answers to those questions. All in all, I think this is a routine cover from Maryland.
