Alabama State started out the year on a rough 0-6 run before finally bagging a win over Eastern Illinois. The Hornets have since lost to Ohio, North Alabama, Georgia Tech and Arkansas State in a four-game losing streak.

Matched up against Arkansas State on Monday, the Hornets were up 31-27 by halftime. Alabama State was outscored 45-34 in the second for a 72-65 defeat. Alex Anderson topped the team on 14 points and seven rebounds.

Over on the Memphis side, they were 4-2 after six games this year, losing to Saint Louis and Seton Hall along the way. The Tigers have gone 5-1 since then with wins over North Alabama, Ole Miss, Little Rock, Auburn and Texas A&M.

In the Texas A&M matchup on Saturday, the Tigers took a 45-36 lead into the second half. Memphis was outscored 43-38 from there but still hung on for the win 83-79. Kendrick Davis led the team on 23 points and nine assists.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Memphis in this one. The line’s probably too thick to play around with, though. The Tigers were a little shaky in the second half of the Texas A&M game, however they were able to get the job done. Memphis shot a nice 55.8 percent from the field but were out-rebounded pretty handily 37-26 (15-6 offensive). That said, the Tigers have generally been playing well lately and should be able to handle Alabama State without issue. The Hornets are on a rough run this year and haven’t scored more than 67 points in 10 of their 11 games this year.
