The Prairie View A&M Panthers and the Michigan Wolverines meet Saturday in college basketball action from the Entertainment and Sports Arena. Prairie View A&M already has a couple of losses in the books this week: one to Saint Mary’s and one to San Francisco. As for Michigan, they beat Buffalo by 12 points in their first game. Prairie View A&M played Saint Mary’s in their opener game this week. The Panthers kept up with a 41-38 first-half deficit but ultimately fell 87-68. Jawaun Daniels and D’Reil Roberts each scored 15 points to lead the team, combining for five rebounds and three assists.
In game two against San Francisco, Prairie View A&M once again came out on the losing end. The Panthers gave up 42 points in the first half and 50 more in the second during a 92-76 loss. Daniels was the leading scorer there, with 25 points and one rebound.
Over on the Michigan side, they’re going off a 23-5 overall record last year with a 14-3 mark in Big Ten play. The Wolverines finished atop the regular-season standings, but lost to Ohio State in the conference tourney. Michigan would go on to make it to the Elite Eight in the national tournament.
Michigan exploded for 51 points in the first half of their opener game versus Buffalo, cruising to an 88-76 win. Hunter Dickinson was the high man on the team with 27 points and six boards, while Terrance Williams had 15 points and seven boards.
Michigan is 35-15-2 ATS in their last 52 neutral-site games and 15-7 ATS in their last 22 after a straight-up win. The Wolverines are 34-16-1 ATS in their last 51 after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, Prairie View is 5-1 ATS in their last six neutral-site games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven as an underdog. The Panthers are 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Michigan, but probably staying away. This line is going to be thick just about everywhere. Prairie View shot fairly well in the San Francisco loss with 45.3 percent from the field. That said, the Dons shot a blistering 61.1 percent on the other side and kept the Panthers at bay.
As for Michigan, they took care of business against Buffalo with 54.2 percent shooting from the field, but had a slim 39-37 rebounding edge that kept the Bulls within range. I don’t think the Panthers will be able to score quite like Buffalo did, however.
