Marist Red Foxes

Marist posted a 5-9 run to start the year, beating American, Bucknell, Columbia, Maine and Mount St. Mary’s along the way. The Foxes are 2-1 since then with wins over Canisius and Niagara before a loss to Saint Peter’s.

On Friday versus Saint Peter’s, the Foxes took a 22-22 tie into the second half. Marist was outscored 39-35 from there and lost 61-57. Leading team scorers Patrick Gardner and Noah Harris each notched 15 points.

Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers

Over on the Mount St. Mary’s side, they were 5-9 through 14 games as well with wins over McDaniel, Cal Poly, Pacific, Saint Peter’s and Loyola MD. The Mountaineers are just 1-4 since then with a lone victory over Canisius.

In the Siena game back on Friday, the Mountaineers were up 38-37 by halftime. Mount St. Mary’s fell apart on a 35-19 second-half deficit and lost 72-57. Jedy Cordilia led the team on 16 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with Marist here. There’s not a ton to like about this matchup as both teams are struggling right now. That said, it should be a competitive game. The last time these teams met back on January 8, Marist powered out a 63-56 win at McCann Arena thanks to 40 second-half points. This rematch should be another close one with a similar total. The Mountaineers have lost four straight games with 57 or fewer points scored in each however, so I can’t trust them on a cover.
