Boston U lost two of their first three games this year, but then hit a nice 8-1 run with a loss to Florida State as the only blemish. The Terriers then lost to Marist before picking up a win over Bucknell to kick off the 2022 calendar year.
In the January 1 matchup versus Bucknell, the Terriers were up 34-29 at halftime and had to hang on for the 63-61 win. Boston U’s top scorer was Sukhmail Mathon with 21 points and 18 rebounds. Javante McCoy added 17 points and five boards.
Over on the Navy side, they lost two of their first three games this year as well. The Midshipmen would hit a five-game win streak before a 2-2 run over their most recent four. Navy took out Marist and Holy Cross during that quartet.
Matched up against Holy Cross, the Midshipmen jumped out to a 42-20 halftime lead and never looked back in a 70-56 win. Greg Summers put up 20 points with five rebounds to lead the way, and Jaylen Walker added 13 points with nine rebounds.
The Midshipmen are 4-1 ATS in their last five Tuesday games and 24-8 ATS in their last 32 overall. The over is 4-0 in Navy’s last four Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Terriers are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 Tuesday games and 5-12-1 ATS in their last 18 after an ATS loss. Boston U is 3-0-2 ATS in their last five road games.
PICK: I’m probably going to try Navy here. We should have a pretty good matchup on our hands regardless, though. The Midshipmen do need to turn up the offense, though; they’ve hit 70 points just once in their last four games and have gone 2-2 in that stretch. As for Boston U, they’ve been at 72 or above in two of the last four but are coming off a lackluster win over a not-so-good Bucknell team. Overall I think these two squads will match up pretty well; I like Navy to eke one out here.
