Wyoming Cowboys
Wyoming kicked off the year on a rough 5-11 run through their first 16 games. The Cowboys are just 2-6 since then. The losses in that time have come versus Boise State, Air Force, UNLV, San Jose State, UNLV again and Boise State again.
In the Boise State rematch back on Saturday, the Cowboys were trailing 41-23 going into halftime. Wyoming got better from there on a 40-34 run but still lost 75-63. Tyson Degenhart was the leading scorer on 20 points and five rebounds.
New Mexico Lobos
Over on the New Mexico side, they opened up the year on a 16-2 run through their first 18 games. The Lobos are just 3-4 in their last seven however, losing to Nevada, Utah State, Nevada again and Air Force in that time.
On Friday versus Air Force, the Lobos trailed 39-32 by halftime. New Mexico couldn’t get any closer on a 50-45 second-half deficit and lost 89-77. Jamal Mashburn Jr. led the team on 32 points and Javonte Johnson added 16 points in 31 minutes.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’m going to stick with New Mexico. The Lobos are just 1-4 in their last five games and could really use a good showing here. The positive news is that New Mexico’s offense is still working well. They’ve hit 73 or more points in each of their last 10 outings. Wyoming fought until the end the last time these teams met up back on December 31 in Laramie. That one ended up a 76-75 New Mexico road win. I like the Lobos to be more comfortable at home in this one and power out the cover, but it should be a fairly competitive matchup most of the way.
