The McNeese State Cowboys and the Nicholls State Colonels meet Thursday in college basketball action from Stopher Gym. McNeese State is 5-13 on the year thus far. McNeese State Cowboys
McNeese State was 4-10 after 14 games this year, beating Champion Christian, Lamar, Northern Iowa and Lamar again. The Cowboys are 1-3 since then with losses to Texas A&M-Commerce, Northwestern State and Houston Christian.
In the Houston Christian matchup on Saturday, the Cowboys took a 41-38 deficit into the second half. McNeese State was outscored 49-43 from there and lost 90-81. Zach Scott was the leading team scorer with 17 points in 31 minutes.
Nicholls State Colonels
Over on the Nicholls State side, they started out at 7-7 with wins over Jarvis Christian TX, San Diego, Champion Christian, Rust, SE Louisiana, Texas A&M-Commerce and Trinity Baptist. The Colonels are 1-2 since then with a win over Northwestern State.
Matched up against Northwestern State on Saturday, the Colonels were up 39-31 going into the second half. Nicholls State hit a 38-32 run from there and won it 77-63. Caleb Huffman was the top scorer with 29 points and six rebounds.

I’ll probably lean Nicholls State in this one. Granted, there’s not a ton of intrigue involved in this one, however. The Colonels have been all over the place scoring-wise lately depending on the matchup; they’ve hit 66 or more points in three of their last five games but they’ve been below 57 points in each of the other two. As for McNeese State, they’ve hit 75 or more points in five straight games so this one is likely to be a fairly high total as well. I like the Colonels to keep the cover pace going, but I’m not going near it.
