Louisiana Tech started out the year on a 6-4 run. The losses in that time came to Texas Tech, Louisiana, Wyoming and Stephen F. Austin. The Bulldogs are on a 4-2 run since then with wins over Jarvis Christian TX, UTSA, Rice and UTEP.

Matched up against UTEP on Saturday, the Bulldogs went into the break with a 37-27 edge. LA Tech was outscored 31-23 from there but hung on for the 60-58 win. Leading team scorer Cobe Williams managed 17 points with four assists.

Over on the North Texas side, they posted an 8-2 run over their first 10 games, taking losses to only Saint Mary’s and UNC Wilmington. The Green are 5-1 in their last six with wins over UMass, UTSA, FIU, Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee.

Back on Saturday versus Middle Tennessee, the Mean Green were down 37-31 going into the break. North Texas rallied for a 25-14 second-half run and took the comeback win 56-51. Tops in scoring was Rubin Jones with 13 points and three boards.

PICK: I’m leaning toward North Texas. That said, you could make a good case either way here; we should have a fun matchup in store. The Mean Green have been a mixed bag scoring-wise over the last month or so, but they’ve managed 70 or more points in three of their last five outings (going 4-1 in that stretch). As for Louisiana Tech, they’ve got 66 or more points in four of the last five (a 4-1 run). It’s tough to know how this one will go; it could be a defense-heavy, low-scoring game or an unbridled shootout. Either way it should be an entertaining game to watch.
