The Abilene Christian Wildcats and the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks meet Sunday in college basketball action from Rolle Activity Center. Abilene Christian enters this game at 2-4 overall. Abilene Christian kicked off the season with a 65-56 win over Jackson State, The Wildcats lost game two to Texas A&M then beat McMurry. The next two games were both losses to Wright State and Weber State.
On Wednesday versus UC Riverside, Abilene Christian took another loss. The Wildcats trailed 37-31 by the break and didn’t get any closer in a 76-65 result. Both Cameron Steele and Immanuel Allen scored 17 points apiece to lead the team.
Over on the Northern Arizona side, they hit a three-game losing streak versus Michigan State, Arizona State and Utah Valley to begin the year. The Lumberjacks then beat Benedictine Mesa and UCSB before another loss to Texas.
The Lumberjacks took on UTRGV in their Tuesday game. Northern Arizona had a 41-35 edge by halftime but was outscored 56-38 from there in a 91-79 loss. Nik Mains led the way on 22 points and six rebounds.
PICK: I might take a stab on Northern Arizona here. The Lumberjacks haven’t fared so well in the record column this year but they’ve had some tough opponents to deal with in the early-going. Northern Arizona can score pretty well given the right matchup; they’ve hit 68 or more points in four of their last six outings. As for Abilene Christian, they’ve had struggles putting up points so far, with 67 or fewer in five of six games. If Northern Arizona can find a good scoring rhythm early I think they’ll be in control.
