Kent State Golden Flashes

Kent State kicked off their year on an 11-3 run with losses to only Charleston, Houston and Gonzaga in that time. The Flashes have since won five more versus Miami-OH, Toledo, Ohio, Eastern Michigan and Ball State.

Matched up against Ball State on Friday, the Flashes were up 45-28 by halftime. Kent State kept the pressure on with a 41-37 advantage in the second and won 86-65. Sincere Carry was the leading scorer on 18 points and three assists.

Northern Illinois Huskies

Over on the Northern Illinois side, they were only able to beat Purdue Calumet, LIU, Eastern Illinois and Indiana State in their first 14 games. The Huskies are 3-2 since then, beating Central Michigan, Miami-OH and Eastern Michigan.

In the Eastern Michigan game on Saturday, the Huskies posted a 50-31 advantage by the break. Northern Illinois scored another 38 points from there and won 88-67. David Coit led the team on 24 points with five assists.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with Kent State. This one could get interesting if NIU plays well at home, though. The Huskies are 3-1 in their last four games, scoring 67 or more points in all four outings. That said, Kent State has won 10 straight games themselves, with 67 or more points in nine of those outings. If the Flashes get off to a good start here, I can see them covering. You wouldn’t be crazy to stick with Northern Illinois given their recent play, however. Should be an interesting matchup.
