Incarnate Word Cardinals

Incarnate Word managed to go a sketchy 10-12 over their first 22 games of the year. The Cardinals are just 2-6 since then, taking losses to Southeastern LA, Lamar, Houston Christian, McNeese State, Nicholls State and Northwestern State.

In the Texas A&M-Commerce matchup back on Saturday, Incarnate Word jumped out to a 40-27 halftime lead. The Cardinals had to scramble in the second half but still won 79-75. Jonathan Cisse topped the team on 26 points with five rebounds.

Northwestern State Demons

Over on the Northwestern State side, they hit a 14-8 run over their first 22 outings of the season. The Demons are 6-2 in their last eight with wins over Houston Christian, Lamar, Texas A&M-Commerce (twice), Southeastern Louisiana and Incarnate Word in that time.

Back on Saturday versus Texas A&M-CC, the Demons were up 39-34 at the break. Northwestern State was outscored 49-36 from there however and lost 83-75. Demarcus Sharp went off for 40 points and five assists in the defeat.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with Northwestern State. The Demons had a rough second half against a pretty good Texas A&M-CC team in their last outing, however they’re a nice 10-2 in their last 12 outings overall. Northwestern State got a road win at McDermott Center on February 23 the last time these teams met up. The Demons finished strong in that one, overcoming a 29-26 halftime deficit with a 45-37 run in the second. I like a good bounce-back effort from Northwestern State in a cover during the rematch.
