The Kansas State Wildcats and the Oklahoma Sooners meet Saturday in college basketball action from Lloyd Noble Center. Kansas State enters this one at 8-3 so far. The Wildcats beat McNeese State in their last game. As for the Sooners, they’re 10-2 and coming off a win over Alcorn State. Kansas State began the year on a 4-2 run with losses to Arkansas and Illinois. The Wildcats have gone 4-1 since then with a loss to Marquette mixed with wins over Wichita State, Green Bay, Nebraska and McNeese State.
Matched up against McNeese State on December 21, the Wildcats scored 35 points in the first half and 39 more from there for a solid 74-59 win. Markquis Nowell doubled up with 18 points and 10 assists, while Nijel Pack added 18 points of his own.
Over on the Sooners’ side, they hit a 7-1 run out of the gate this year with a lone loss to Utah State on November 21. Oklahoma then lost to Butler before wins versus Arkansas, TX-Arlington and Alcorn State.
In the Alcorn State game on December 22, Oklahoma held the Braves to just 15 first-half points during a 72-48 blowout victory. Umoja Gibson took the lead on 17 points and four boards, while Jordan Goldwire added 11 points.
The Sooners are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 Saturday games and 4-13 ATS in their last 17 as a favorite. Oklahoma is 13-3 ATS in their last 16 as an underdog.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games and 5-2-1 ATS in the last eight overall. The under is 6-1 in Kansas State’s last seven overall.
PICK: I’m sticking with Oklahoma. The Sooners had zero trouble in their last game, shooting a blistering 60 percent from the floor with 35 rebounds and 18 team assists. It’s been a good three-game stretch for Oklahoma; they’ve hit 70 or more points in each win.
As for Kansas State, they’ve been at 67 points or below in three of their last five outings. The team is 4-1 in that time, though. The Wildcats will want to keep this a lower-scoring game, but I think Oklahoma has the offense to push out a cover here. Should be a fun one.
