Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers
Mount St. Mary’s started out the year on a sketchy 6-10 run. Since then the Mountaineers have gone just 1-6 overall. The losses in that time have come to Manhattan, Quinnipiac, Siena, Fairfield, Saint Peter’s and Iona.
In the Iona matchup on Friday, the Mountaineers were destroyed 48-18 in the first half. Mount St. Mary’s kept the pace from there with 33 points but lost big 81-51. Dola Adebayo was the only team double-digit scorer on 13 points.
Quinnipiac Bobcats
Over on the Quinnipiac side, they went a solid 11-5 over their first 16 games this year. The Bobcats have since managed a 6-1 stretch with wins over Iona, Saint Peter’s, Mount St. Mary’s, Canisius, Marist and Fairfield.
Matched up against Fairfield in the Friday game, the Bobcats were up 26-21 going into the locker room. Quinnipiac hit a 40-30 run in the second half for a 66-51 win. Ike Nweke bagged 18 points with eight boards in the victory.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably stay with Quinnipiac. The line may be a little too thick to mess with, though. The Bobcats have lost just one of their last nine games, and they’ve scored 66 or more points in seven of those. Quinnipiac wasn’t quite so dominant the last time these teams met up on January 15 at Knott Arena however, winning by a modest 58-51 margin. As for Mount St. Mary’s, they’ve been struggling with just one win in eight games. This is going to be another tough matchup for the Mountaineers and I don’t think they’ll keep the pace.
