George Washington went 5-3 over their first eight games this year, losing to only Hofstra, UC San Diego and Radford. The Colonials are just 2-4 since then with losses to American, Washington State, Pepperdine and Seattle.

In the Loyola IL matchup on Saturday, the Colonials were up 40-37 at the break. George Washington posted a 57-50 edge from there and won 97-87. James Bishop led the way on 40 points and seven assists.

Over on the Richmond side, they were 3-5 after eight games, beating VMI, Northern Iowa and Temple. The Spiders are 4-2 in their last six with wins versus Drake, Fairleigh-Dickinson, Bucknell and Coppin State.

Matched up against George Mason on Saturday, the Spiders went into the second half tied at 32-32. Richmond was outscored 30-26 from there and lost 62-58. Tyler Burton was the lead team scorer on 21 points.

PICK: I’m going to stay with George Washington. We should have a pretty good overall matchup here if GW plays well. The Colonials are coming off a solid win over a decent Loyola team in their last outing, and they’ve scored 67 or more points in three straight games. As for Richmond, they struggled against George Mason but had a combined 164 points in the two games prior. I like this matchup to be fairly close, with George Washington eking out the cover. Should be a fun one.
