The Stonehill Skyhawks and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights meet Saturday in college basketball action from the RAC. Stonehill is currently just 2-12 overall and coming off a loss to Miami. As for Rutgers, they lost to Mississippi State last weekend, which dropped the Knights to 7-4 on the year. Let’s get into our Stonehill vs. Rutgers prediction. Stonehill Skyhawks
The Skyhawks have managed just two wins this year over Army and Hartford. Outside of that, it’s been losses to George Washington, UConn, Saint Joseph’s, Kentucky, Texas-A&M-Commerce, Quinnipiac, UMass Lowell, Binghamton, Stony Brook, Rider, New Hampshire and Miami for Stonehill.
In the Miami game last Thursday, the Skyhawks didn’t have much chance. Stonehill fell behind 54-25 by the break, then hit a 43-34 deficit from there in a 97-59 defeat. Leading team scorer Tony Felder put up 22 points with two rebounds, while Se’yphon Triplett added 16 bench points.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Over on the Knights’ side, they managed a 5-1 run to kick off the year, taking out Boston U, Bryant, Georgetown, Howard and Saint Peter’s along the way. Rutgers is 2-3 since then with wins over Seton Hall and Long Island U between losses to Illinois, Wake Forest and Mississippi State.
Matched up against Mississippi State over the weekend, the Knights were all tied up 29-29 going into the second half. Rutgers lost the pace from there on a 41-31 deficit however, and lost 70-60. The only double-digit scorer was Aundre Hyatt with 18 points and six rebounds in 34 minutes of work.
ANDREW’S FREE STONEHILL VS RUTGERS PREDICTION
I’ll stay with Rutgers. The line’s probably too thick to mess with, though. The Knights didn’t play all that well versus a tricky Mississippi State team in their last outing, shooting just 37.1 percent from the field and 17.6 percent (3-of-17) from 3-point range alongside a 47-26 rebounding deficit. Rutgers’ fortunes should most definitely change here though, as Stonehill has given up 73 or more points in all 12 losses so far this year. I like a good bounce-back for the Knights against an overmatched opponent on Saturday.
