The BYU Cougars and the San Diego State Aztecs meet in college basketball action from the Viejas Arena on Friday night.
The BYU Cougars will try to build on a 60-56 win over Idaho State from their season opener. Fousseyni Traore had a team-high 15 points on 5 of 9 shooting with a team-high 11 rebounds for the double-double while Spencer Johnson added 11 points and Gideon George had 10 points with 8 rebounds to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for BYU in the win.
The San Diego State Aztecs will be out to build on an 80-57 win over Cal State-Fullerton last time out. Darrion Trammell led the way with 18 points on 6 of 7 shooting with 4 threes while Lamont Butler had 11 points on 5 of 10 shooting with a team-high 6 assists and Jaedon LeDee added 11 points of his own with 3 assists. Nathan Mensah added 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting with a team-high 6 rebounds to cap off the scoring in double figures in the winning effort for San Diego State.
BYU is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games following a win while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following an ATS loss. San Diego State is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Friday games and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 home games.
I get the case to be made for either side here as these games are usually entertaining. However, I don’t like the shape of this BYU offense as I just don’t think it has the same offensive potential that past BYU teams have had, and that’s not good against a San Diego State team that can lock down defensively and has the better starting five between the two here. Give me San Diego State in this one.
