Mississippi State Bulldogs
Mississippi State went 12-4 over their first 16 games this year, losing to Drake, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. The Bulldogs are just 1-4 since then with losses to Auburn, Tennessee, Florida and Alabama.
In the TCU matchup on Saturday, Mississippi State finally got back into the win column. The Bulldogs scored 31 in the first half, 35 in the second and 15 in overtime for an 81-74 win. Tolu Smith doubled up on 27 points and 13 rebounds during the victory.
South Carolina Gamecocks
Over on the Gamecocks’ side, they lost to Colorado State, Davidson, Furman, George Washington, UAB, East Carolina, Vanderbilt and Tennessee in their first 16 games. The Gamecocks are 0-5 since then and coming off a loss to Georgia.
In the Georgia game on Saturday, the Gamecocks hit 37 points in the first half, 36 in the second and got outscored 8-5 in overtime for an 81-78 defeat. Hayden Brown managed a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds.

I’ll probably stick with Mississippi State here. The Bulldogs are just 1-5 in their last six games, however they’ve played some pretty tough teams during that time. Mississippi State was within three points of both Alabama and Florida and they’re fresh off a nice win over a good TCU team. As for South Carolina, they got close to Georgia in a commendable effort but fell by double-digits in the previous four games. If Mississippi State can get off to a good start in this one I think they’ll keep the Bulldogs at bay.
