Southern vs Bethune-Cookman 1/9/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats and the Southern Jaguars meet in college basketball action from the F.G. Clark Activity Center on Monday night.

The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats will look to rebound from a 76-70 loss to Grambling State last time out. Marcus Garrett leads the Wildcats in scoring with 13.3 PPG and 4.6 RPG while Zion Harmon has 12.5 PPG with a team-high 2.9 APG to lead the Wildcats in assists as the only other double-digit scorer for Bethune-Cookman so far this season. Dylan Robertson also has a team-high 4.8 RPG to lead the Wildcats in rebounding this season. As a team, Bethune-Cookman is averaging 66.7 PPG on 41.8% shooting from the field, 35% from three and 72.1% from the foul line this season.

The Southern Jaguars will look to build on an 84-66 win over Florida A&M last time out. Bryson Etienne leads the Jaguars in scoring with 11.5 PPG along with 3.3 RPG while Brion Whitley has 10.9 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for the Jaguars this season. P.J. Byrd has a team-high 5.4 APG to lead the Jaguars in the assist department up to this point in the year while Terrell Williams Jr. has a team-high 4.1 RPG. As a team, Southern is averaging 73.8 PPG on 43.7% shooting from the field, 35.8% from three and 69.9% from the foul line this season.

Bethune-Cookman is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 road games against a team with a winning home record and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a home winning percentage above .600 while the over is 16-5 in their last 21 games overall. Southern is 8-1 ATS in their last 9 Monday games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games against a team with a losing road record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following an ATS win.

This is a big number to lay with Southern, but I think it’s warranted. I just don’t trust Bethune-Cookman on the road as they’ve been getting their teeth kicked in more often than not. I get that a lot of those games came against far better than what they’re against here, but I think that Southern at home puts the boots to Bethune-Cookman here and gets a big win and cover.
