Florida Gulf Coast Eagles

Florida Gulf Coast got off to a pretty good start this year, going 14-6 over their first 20 games. The Eagles would then lose to Kennesaw State, Queens NC, Liberty, Central Arkansas and North Alabama before wins over North Florida and Jacksonville.

In the Jacksonville game back on Saturday, the Eagles faced a 25-22 deficit at the break. Florida Gulf Coast hit a 40-26 run in the second half and won it 62-51. Leading the way was Isaiah Thompson with 20 points and three rebounds.

Stetson Hatters

Over on the Stetson side, they managed a 10-7 run over their first 17 games. In the eight outings since, Stetson is 4-4 with wins over Jacksonville State, North Alabama, Central Arkansas and Jacksonville during that time.

Matched up against North Florida on Saturday, the Hatters were down 44-36 in the locker room. Stetson didn’t end up getting any closer on a 48-45 second-half deficit and lost 92-81. Jalen Blackmon was the team’s top scorer with 18 points.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stay with Stetson. The Hatters are coming off a loss to a competitive North Florida team, but they’d had a three-game win streak going before that. Stetson has hit 70 or more points in four straight games however, and 79 or more in three of those. This will be the first installment of a home-and-home pair between the Hatters and FGCU. Considering the Eagles have hit 68 or more points in three of tier last four games, we could have a pretty high-scoring affair here. With Stetson holding home court however, I like them slightly better cover-wise.
