Houston Christian Huskies

Houston Christian got off to a rough start this season, winning just four of their first 16 games. The Huskies are 3-5 since then, taking losses to Incarnate Word, Northwestern State, Texas A&M-Commerce, Northwestern State again and Nicholls State in that time.

Matched up against Nicholls State on Saturday, the Huskies took a 44-42 deficit into the second half. Houston Christian posted a 49-48 run from there in a 92-91 loss. Make Klanjscek was the top team scorer on 24 points and three rebounds.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders

Over on the Texas A&M-CC side, they posted a pretty solid 10-6 record over their first 16 games this year. The Islanders are 5-3 in their last eight with wins over New Orleans, Nicholls State, McNeese State, New Orleans again and SE Louisiana.

In the SE Louisiana matchup on Saturday, the Islanders drilled the Lions 48-28 in the first half. Texas A&M-CC cruised from there in a 44-35 second half for an 83-72 win. Terrion Murdix was the high man on 23 points and four rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

It’s probably going to be Texas A&M-CC for me. The Islanders are fresh off a nice road win over a pretty good SE Louisiana team, and they’ve now won four straight games. Texas A&M-CC is scoring very well these days with 78 or more points in five straight outings and 83 or more in four straight. That said, the last time these teams met up back on January 21 at Sharp Gymnasium, Houston Christian secured a 90-78 win thanks to a 51-40 advantage in the second half. The Islanders should be poised for revenge in this one, and I like them to power out the cover. Should be a fun matchup to watch.
