Vanderbilt Commodores

Vanderbilt lost to Memphis, Southern Miss, Saint Mary’s, VCU, Grambling State, NC State, Missouri and Tennessee in their first 16 games. Since then it’s been a 2-2 stretch with losses to Alabama and Kentucky alongside wins over Arkansas and Georgia.

In the Kentucky game on Tuesday, the Commodores trailed 36-27 going into the second half. Vanderbilt fell further behind on a 33-26 deficit and lost 69-53. Malik Dia posted 14 points and Tyrin Lawrence bagged 12 points with four rebounds.

Over on the Texas A&M side, they started out the year at 11-5 with losses to Murray State, Colorado, Boise State, Memphis and Wofford. The Aggies are 3-1 in their last four with wins over South Carolina, Florida and Auburn.

Matched up against Auburn on Wednesday, the Aggies put up a 45-30 advantage by the break. Texas A&M kept the pressure up with a 34-33 second-half run and took the upset 79-63. Tyrece Radford scored 30 with nine boards.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m going to lean toward Texas A&M here—so long as the Aggies don’t have a hangover after the big road win over Auburn. Texas A&M shot a nice 47.3 percent from the floor in that one with a 32-28 rebounding advantage and nine turnovers. The Aggies are 8-1 in their last nine outings and looking pretty good right now. As for Vanderbilt, they’re coming off a flat performance versus Kentucky but they’ve been scoring relatively well overall lately. I don’t think the Commodores will keep a cover pace if Texas A&M gets going, though.
