The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the Texas State Bobcats meet Saturday in college basketball action from Strahan Coliseum. The Chanticleers are 12-9 so far this year. Coastal Carolina lost to Arkansas State in their last game. As for Texas State, they’re coming off a Thursday game versus Appalachian State. In that one the Bobcats eked out a two-point win. Coastal Carolina hit a 9-5 run to start the year, then lost three straight to Troy and Appalachian State (twice). The Chanticleers would recover with a three-game win streak over Georgia Southern, Georgia State and Little Rock before a loss to Arkansas State.

In the Arkansas State game back on January 29, the Chanticleers had a slim two-point lead at the break. Coastal Carolina couldn’t hold on and eventually lost 73-66. Leading scorer Ebrima Dibba put up 16 points with eight rebounds and four assists.

Over on the Bobcats’ side, they went 12-4 over their first 16 games, falling to LSU, Vanderbilt, Houston and Troy along the way. Texas State would then lose to Arkansas State and UT Arlington before a win over the Mavericks in the rematch.

On Thursday versus App State, Texas State had a 41-29 lead by halftime. The Bobcats had to hang on in the second half but ultimately came away with the 68-66 win. Caleb Asberry led the team on 16 points and five boards during the victory.

The Bobcats are 1-4 ATS in their last five at home and 16-34-1 ATS in their last 51 Saturday games. Texas State is 0-4 ATS in their last four overall.

Meanwhile, the Chanticleers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five road games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games. The under is 6-2 in Coastal’s last eight overall.

PICK: I’m going to try Texas State here. The Bobcats haven’t exactly been scoring dynamos lately; they’ve hit fewer than 70 points in each of their last five games. That said, Texas State is generally doing well on defense. It’ll be hard for Coastal Carolina to find easy scoring opportunities in this one.

Speaking of Coastal Carolina, they had a matchup versus UT Arlington cancelled this week due to bad weather so they may be a little rusty initially here. I like the Chanticleers to put up a good effort, but I don’t think they’ll make the cover.
