Prairie View kicked off the season on a nice three-game win streak. The Panthers took out Kansas CC in their opener, then beat North American 95-68. Game three was another victory, this time 70-59 over Washington State.
In Sunday’s matchup versus TN-Martin, Prairie View took their first loss. The Panthers were outscored 37-36 in the first half and ultimately fell 80-79. William Douglas led the team on 22 points with six rebounds and six assists.
Over on the UTSA side, their year began with a 74-47 blowout win over Trinity TX. The Roadrunners’ first loss came courtesy of Texas A&M-CC 75-55, but they bounced back for a 66-59 win over St. Mary’s (TX) in game three.
PICK: I’m going to go with Prairie View in this one. The Panthers have been playing pretty well over four games this year, scoring 70 or more in each outing. In their first loss of the year against TN-Martin, Prairie View shot 44.4 percent from the field with 20 assists but they were out-rebounded 37-30 (12-11 offensive). As for UTSA, they’ve been at 66 or fewer points in three of four games this year, so they’ll likely want to keep the tempo slow in this one. Ultimately I think Prairie View will pull off the cover in an entertaining game.
